How To Tie A Bow Tie

Lift your collar and hang one end of the tie about an inch lower than the other end.


Cross the long end over the small end.


Bring the long end up through the V and create a simple knot like with shoe laces.


Now take what started as the small end and fold it over on itself with the middle under your chin. One end should have a loop. The loop should be on the opposite side from where this part of the tie started this step. Hold this in place with a finger.


Now take the other end and bring it over the middle of the now folded piece.


Take the loop side and the open side of the small folded piece and pinch them together and pull outward a bit to reveal the hole.


Take a finger and push the hanging part through the hole. The top of this part of the tie must go through first to produce a loop. Trying to push through the middle or the end won't produce a loop once through the hole.


You can use another finger to get the rest of the loop through the hole, but after a little of the loop is through, let go.


Start adjusting the tie into place. There should be one loop on either side plus one open end on either side. Pulling on the loops will tighten the tie. Pulling on the open ends will undo it. Straighten the tie to your liking.


Never try and make the tie look perfect. It's supposed to be a little off.
